Awaiting Water

Value of Water in the Western Cape

Sanne Raaijmakers

Southern Africa quickly becomes dryer due to climate change. The Dutch environmental sciences student Sanne travels to South Africa to find out how this is impacting the residents. She visits farmers who tell their personal stories, and finds out the importance of water in their lives.

The impact of drought is not limited to the countryside: a major water crisis is threatening Cape Town. The water supply is quickly depleting due to abnormally dry years. Sanne realises that water cannot be taken for granted and moreover: droughts are exacerbated by a consumerist lifestyle. How long can we continue like this?
